Victorian education unions united in concern about NAPLAN

Joint statement from AEU Victorian and IEU Vic-Tas on NAPLAN online

The Victorian education unions remain seriously concerned about the reported ongoing problems with NAPLAN online data.

The credibility of both the NAPLAN online test and NAPLAN more broadly has been seriously undermined by the reports of the lack of comparability between online and paper tests.

It is clear that it will be impossible for schools and parents to have any confidence in the data if and when it is released.

We welcome Minister Merlino’s call for an independent review of the trial and urge him to withdraw Victoria from any further rollout of the NAPLAN online trial.

Teachers and principals support the Minister continuing to call for a full review of NAPLAN.

The Federal Education Minister should acknowledge the problems that are being reported and listen to teachers and principals and the broader education community who have been calling for a full and comprehensive review of NAPLAN.
