Andrews must guarantee 70% of VET funding to TAFE

Privatisation of our education and training system has failed, and the Andrews Government must stop the flow of taxpayers’ money going to dodgy private providers and commit to TAFE.

The South Australian Government has guaranteed 70% of funding to TAFEs. The AEU is calling on the Victorian Government to do the same.

“The South Australian Labor government has guaranteed at least 70% of vocational education and training funding for TAFE. New South Wales Labor did the same. It’s time for the Andrews Labor government step up and match these promises,” saysMeredith Peace, president of AEU Victoria.

“Federal Labor has also pledged two thirds of public vocational education funding to TAFE if elected. We call on Daniel Andrews to deliver funding certainty for Victoria’s TAFEs.

“Only public TAFEs can be trusted to deliver educated and skilled graduates that employers need for the future.

Unscrupulous private colleges continue to rip-off the taxpayer and deliver poor quality training. They are profiteering at the expense of students and employers who want work-ready graduates. Students are missing out on the education and training they want and deserve.

Premier Andrews needs to guarantee support for public TAFEs."

"The private training market is broken beyond repair. We need a education and training system that can deliver for industries of the future, and to do that we need the Victorian Government to guarantee 70% of vocational education funding to TAFE,” saysMs Peace.
