Long-service leave, attendance, and teaching loads

Summary: TAFE teachers are entitled to 13 weeks of long service leave after 10 years service, or can access pro-rata entitlements after seven years service (see MEA Schedule 6 Clause 26, MEA Clause 33). Long service leave shall be taken at a mutually agreed time having regard for the operational needs of the employer but shall not be unreasonably refused. Meal breaks

Summary: Key points Teachers cannot work more than five hours without a meal break. Meal breaks must be for a minimum of 30 minutes. Teachers cannot be forced to take meal breaks of more than one hour. Attendance is not required during meal breaks. Lunch meal break shall be scheduled between 12.00pm – 2.00pm. Evening meal break shall be scheduled between 5.00pm – 7.00pm. Time between duties on the same day, other than meal breaks, is attendance time.
