The Australian Education Union represents members working in public education in Victoria.

The union has a full time vacancy for a Member Support Centre Officer to work through to the end of January 2018. 

The Member Support Centre Officer works as part of the Member Support Centre (MSC) and provides industrial advice and assistance to individual members and workplace representatives of the union.  This assistance includes phone advice as well as advocacy and representation work.

Remuneration: Annual salary of $106,299

  • Demonstrated commitment to unionism
  • An understanding of and commitment to public education
  • High level verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including:
    • the ability to communicate with a diverse audience
    • the ability to communicate complex and sensitive matters objectively, calmly and with empathy
    • the ability to organise and recruit over the phone and in person
    • the ability to write clear, accurate and concise documents including briefing notes and correspondence
  • Ability to handle member questions and cases  including development of materials and documents, negotiation and advocacy of cases to resolution including before tribunals
  • Knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of, AEU Agreements and other relevant industrial and employment law.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret industrial instruments and develop and update reference material
  • Ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships with key stakeholders including working as part of a team
  • Ability to show initiative and demonstrate high level organisational skills including being able to work to deadlines, prioritise work, and manage multiple matters concurrently


  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in handling member questions and cases  including development of materials and documents, negotiation and advocacy of cases to resolution including before tribunals
  • Ability to provide advice, mentor, coach, and develop other staff in undertaking MSC case work
  • Understanding of gender and employment issues as they apply to a union in which the majority of the members are women.
  • High level computer skills
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood or Disability sectors would be an advantage but not essential
  • Current Victorian drivers licence
